Micheal Thompson is in his fourth year as principal of Johnson Senior High School. Mr. Thompson brings a wealth of experience to his new position, especially for effectively working with and motivating high school students. He has spent more than 25 years with Saint Paul Public Schools, and previously served as the principal of Gordon Parks High School. Under his leadership, Gordon Parks transformed into a high quality school of choice that keeps students on track for graduation. His mantra “effort makes the difference,” is a cornerstone of his positive reinforcement toward the education of our students and contributions to our community.
Hello to Johnson High School Families: For several years Johnson High School parents have organized and hosted the annual senior-class all-night party, which runs from 9:00 PM following commencement each year until 5:00 AM the next day. The party is open to all graduating seniors for a nominal fee. Last year 200 members of the class of 2016 participated, spending the night after graduation with their classmates here at school with a fun variety of activities, great food, and prizes. As is the case at all high schools that offer an all-night party for graduating seniors, parent volunteers run the entire show, from set-up in the afternoon and evening before the party starts to close-up and clean-up the next morning. Parents also organize the activities, head up fundraising, and work closely with local food and prize vendors in preparation for the party. Planning for the party usually starts in early February five months before graduation. Because parents of senior students are busy with graduation activities on the day of the party, senior parents are not as available to help out on the day of the party. This means that the party is always dependent on parents of students in grades 11, 10, and 9. To be brief, we need parent volunteers to help out with the 2017 party coming up on Tuesday, June 6, and to be a part of continuing the tradition for the classes of 2018 and beyond. To volunteer, please contact Martin Weintzweig at 612/834-5206. You can also contact Martin via email at bigchairguy@gmail,com. There are many volunteer slots available--and it is a fun event. Please consider volunteering to ensure that we can continue this tradition for our graduating seniors. Yours, Micheal J. Thompson Principal
